“Birgitta Yavari-Ilan where is she from? Småland or Jerusalem, Persia or Paris, USA or India? She carries all that and a little more in her duffel bag. She has been associated with skilled illustration and devoted faith”.

My first book and calendar with the same name, There is a love, was published in 1972 and was made until the mid-90s. After the death of my son Eliel, the creation became too difficult, but now I have again taken up the glorious and annual task of making a message illustrated calendar. The message may require as much craftsmanship as building a violin, with passion for the Holy One of Israel and for that Jerusalem, as it were, rests a city above.
With art made not for profit but for love, my paintings need no explanation and can be freely interpreted in as many ways as there are eyes to see them.
The text and the artwork don't necessarily say the same thing, but the two complement each other.
The main thread in my art has been the fascination with the love on earth and the love of heaven, the Promised Land and the Lord's people restored. And I have allowed myself the same spiritual and artistic freedom that Mark Chagall took in portraying lovers lifted above the earth and Christ crucified.
Where needed, whether in real life or in a message, I have laid down like a bridge over deep waters and kept my identity as big and wide as possible, without selling any of my dreams or true pearls.
Israel has been my home since 1973 and it is natural for me to celebrate the Jewish holidays and the Sabbath like Jesus.
From Jerusalem the veil between heaven and earth was thin and where Jerusalem below and Jerusalem above are united in the beauty of hope and divine history.
